Recent and upcoming articles promoting positive development in kids.

Please check out Teens and Cyber Safety for a look at how the dynamics that operate online, coupled with the developmental tasks our kids are dealing with, can be a dangerous mix. Also, take a look at The Truth About Girl Power, which discusses how the term “Girl Power” has been misused in our society. Instead of exercising their power in terms of appearance, attracting boys, and purchasing decisions, girls can learn how to be powerful, positive forces in their own lives as well as the world around them. My most recent article is Wild Scenes and Drama Queens: Celebrities Behaving Badly. It talks about how tabloid coverage of antisocial behavior highlights unhealthy role models for our kids, and what you can do to lessen this impact.

Upcoming articles: Over the next week we will continue our focus on media and its potential impact on kids. Check back soon for more on cyber safety, including what you can do to help kids act appropriately and stay safe online. Since the features on tobacco advertising and teens have been among the most popular, we will soon move into talking about alcohol advertising and teens, focusing in particular on the popular “alcopops” that are sure to be gaining in popularity as the warm weather approaches.
